Oneota Community Co-op campaign raises $1,600

A "Round-Up at the Register" campaign at the Oneota Community Food Co-op has raised over $1,600 for the Northeast Iowa Farm To School program.

Co-op customers were given the opportunity to round-up their purchases to the nearest whole dollar, with these funds going to support Farm to School programming in Northeast Iowa.  Farm to School is a national movement connecting schools with their local agricultural communities, helping children understand where their food comes from and how their food choices impact their bodies, the environment, and their communities.

NE Iowa Food and Fitness Initiative joined this effort in 2009 with the adoption of pilot projects in six school districts. Since then, schools across the region have implemented farm to school activities including taste tests, local food days, and school gardens. The most recent effort is focused on early childcare centers and preschools to engage eaters at a younger age.
