Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says temperatures averaged below normal in October in Decorah, while precipitation was above normal.
Decorah continues to get a lot of rain--Bernatz says October's total of 5.29 inches was nearly three inches more than normal for the past 125 Octobers. For the past 12 months, Decorah has gotten nearly 18 inches more precipitation than normal. The last six months of May through October have been even rainier--the total of 42.88 inches of rain surpassed the average precipitation by nearly 20 inches!
During the past 12 months, temperatures have been warmer than normal, meaning the rain fell in the warmer summer months, with the winter months of last November and December having less precipitation.
In October in Decorah, the average temperature was 48.6 degrees Fahrenheit--1.7 degrees cooler than average. There were no record high temperatures during the month. The temperature fell to 21 degrees on October 21st, but that was not a record, either.
