State Auditor Mary Mosiman Friday morning in Decorah stressed that she's the only candidate for Auditor who is a CPA.
Mosiman is running against Democrat Rob Sand, a native of Decorah. She didn't mention Sand by name on Friday, but stressed that the State Auditor has been a CPA since 1979. Sand has been working as an attorney in the State Attorney General's Office.
"Audits impact every taxpayers," Mosiman told the group at the Family Table Restaurant. Mosiman says it's a requirement that audits performed by her office must be done by a licensed CPA. She predicted that if someone who wasn't a CPA was elected State Auditor, the State of Iowa would spent at least $5 million hiring outside CPA firms to do audits.
Mosiman closed her speech by noting that a sign has hung in her office since she was elected State Auditor. The sign says, "In God we trust--everyone else, we audit."
