When current Winneshiek County Recorder Teresa Bockman announced early this year that she would not seek re-election, two candidates surfaced to run for the office--Republican Connie Askelson-Kuennen and Independent Jayne Schultz.
Connie Askelson-Kuennen is a Winneshiek County native who attended Decorah High School and has many years of experience in sales, customer service, business development, and bookkeeping.
She says that wide range of work experiences would help her to handle the demands of the County Recorder position, including maintaining financial accountability and handling security upgrades for the office's records. She says she could approach the job with a set of fresh eyes and would welcome new ideas.
Jayne Schultz has worked as deputy recorder for Winneshiek County for the past 15 years. She is a Winneshiek County native whose family has lived here for four generations. Schultz has an Associate's Degree in business and has worked as an independent business owner and as an office manager before becoming Deputy Winneshiek County Recorder.
Schultz says her knowledge of the rules and her personal integrity would serve her well in handling the important real estate records in the office. She says she has been endorsed by Winneshiek Title & Abstract Company and by others who frequently work with the Recorders Office.
