Facilitator Storm Bailey will lead a lively two-part conversation about Homer's "Odyssey" on Thursday, November 1st, and Thursday, November 8th at 6:30 p.m. both days at Decorah Public Library. Participants are encouraged to read the full poem as well as the translator's notes prior to Thursday's meeting.
The epic adventure story "The Odyssey" is a poem about violence and the aftermath of war; about wealth, poverty, and power; about marriage and family; about travelers, hospitality, and the yearning for home.
Everyone is invited to join a group of engaged readers to discuss the structure of the book and its key themes: from hospitality and friendship to masculinity and Homeric virtues. The group will explore what home means for Odysseus and what it might mean for us.
Facilitator Storm Bailey is a Professor of Philosophy at Luther College who is also exploring "The Odyssey" with Paideia students this fall.
