NEICAC Family Services Office will starting taking home energy assistance applications on Thursday.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is available to households that have an annual gross income of 175 percent or less of the federal poverty level.  A one-person household with $21,245 of income or less would qualify, as would a four-person household with annual income of $43,925 or less and an eight-person household of $74,165 of income or less.

This program is funded through the Iowa Department of Human Rights, and has been established to help qualifying low-income Iowa homeowners and renters pay a portion of their primary heating costs.  All low-income Northeast Iowans are encouraged to apply, including senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.  Households burning wood or where heating is included as part of the rent may also be eligible for assistance.

If your household applied for LIHEAP in the 2017-2018 LIHEAP program year, you can apply online at http://www.neicac.org/LIHEAP.
