(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Bob Puffer of Decorah):
"Menards has done this many times over their history. A distance of two miles away from a floodplain was enough to change their minds for launching in Decorah. Personal experience: YEARS ago a thorough inventory of a store Menards wanted to buy in Fargo resulted in John Menard saying he wanted it for millions less. In my opinion, that has always been Menards' desire -- getting a lot more for a lot less. Decorah wants to get a fair share and that doesn't fit with how Menards wants to do business -- they really don't fit well with Decorah. We don't need the low paying jobs -- we can't fill the better paying jobs. I'm sorry for which community they find a final fit."
