The Community Visioning group has studied pedestrian safety throughout Decorah--and it thinks improvements could be made on Montgomery Street to help pedestrians.
One proposal being put forth by the group would create a pedestrian refuge island on Montgomery Street near the driveway entrance to The Depot Outlet. Pedestrians would be able to cross Montgomery Street 20 feet at a time, stopping at a 10-foot wide island in the middle of the street if necessary.
The Community Visioning group is also proposing that city officials authorize a widened sidewalk on the west side of Montgomery Street and a near trail segment on the east side of the street which would connect to the Trout Run Trail.
