(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Jan and Dave Siefken and Nancy and Rob Bolson, all of Decorah):

"Want to Know A Secret?

Listen--this is important--your best candidate for County Recorder is already in the County Recorder's office. Her name is Jayne Schultz, and she has faithfully served as deputy recorder for 15 years. Jayne is running as an independent, because, as she states, "The office of recorder has always treated customers in a non-partisan way, so why run a partisan campaign?"

In her 15 years in the recorder's office, Jayne has developed an excellent working rapport with the other departments in the courthouse, as well as with community members including people in the abstract office, attorneys, realtors, and the general public.  She is the only passport agent in Winneshiek County, and makes the process simple and painless for the customer (and she takes great passport pictures).

When individuals need help with records research, Jayne provides excellent service in a friendly, courteous manner. Her first priority is always the customer at the counter.

The main duty of the recorder's office is recording and preservation of real estate records. These records date back to 1850 and are kept forever. The digital records are kept secure by Winneshiek County IT staff. Jayne has a strong work ethic, and is attentive to detail in this important preservation of records.

Jayne's conscientious attitude, rapport with people, calm manner, and years of experience make her a perfect candidate to make a seamless transition to county recorder. Why change?

Please join us in voting for Jayne Schultz."
