Winneshiek County woman sentenced to two years probation in child endangerment case

Judge Margaret Lingreen has issued an Order of Disposition in the case of a Winneshiek County woman who entered a "guilty" plea to a charge of child endangerment.

28-year-old Monica Flores, who lives on Pole Line Road in Winneshiek County, was accused of hitting and starving her 3-year-old daughter.  The criminal complaint filed against Flores alleges that the daughter had bruises on both of her legs, her neck, her face and on the right side of her body.  The complaint said the bruises appeared to come from blows over a period of time.  The girl was also found to be malnourished, with the criminal complaint claiming the girl had not been given food or water on a regular basis.

Flores entered a written guilty plea to the charge against her last Tuesday.  Judge Lingreen has now sentenced Flores to up to two years in jail, but suspended that sentence and ordered Flores to serve two years probation and to pay a fine and court costs.  Flores will be required to live at a residential facility for up to one year as part of the probation.
