One issue must still be settled regarding sidewalks in the Bruening Addition

The "California sidewalks" in the 1300 block of Division Street
As decorahnews.com reported earlier (
http://www.decorahnews.com/news-stories/2018/10/20557.html), the Decorah City Council has approved initial design work for a sidewalk plan for the Bruening Subdivision. Under the design, "California sidewalks" would be created that, unlike standard Decorah sidewalks, are right next to the street, not separated by a grass boulevard.
Left unanswered for now--but on the city council's to-do list--is to determine how to handle snow removal for the Bruening addition sidewalks.
However, the "California sidewalks" have been installed in other parts of Decorah, so the snow removal challenge is not unique to this subdivision. For instance, there's a sidewalk in the 1300 block of Division Street that is right against the street--and city crews handle snow removal. On the other hand, other such sidewalks are plowed by property owners, such as in the 200 block of Riverview Drive.
City ordinances give property owners 24 hours from the end of snowfall to have their sidewalks cleared. Now the Decorah City Council must decide whether it will be city crews or private property owners responsible for that task in the Bruening Addition.
