On Saturday, September 8th, South Winneshiek FFA members, Tony Hanson, Julissa Elsbernd, and Anna-Britt Lien participated in State Dairy Judging at Manchester. Tony placed 15th individually and they placed bronze as a team. At the event, students judged six classes of dairy cattle, gave oral reasons for their placings and took a general knowledge exam. Students also judged EPD and Management records and performed basic math problems useful in day-to-day operations on a dairy farm.
On Thursday, September 13th, South Winneshiek FFA members attended Tri-State Dairy Judging at NICC in Calmar. Student in attendance were from Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. South Winneshiek Reasons team placed 11th overall. Team members included Tony Hanson, Ashley Elsbernd, Julissa Elsbernd, and Ayden Broszeit. Tony Hanson placed 15th overall. Students judged five classes of dairy cattle, gave reasons over one class and took a general knowledge exam. South Winneshiek also had two teams that represented as non-reasons teams. These teams judged five classes of cattle. Team 1 was recognized for placing 10th overall members included: Lucas Wiedow, Hannah Hageman, Kylie Kohrs, and Liz Tieskoetter. South Winn Team two included: Vanessa Hageman, Owen Larson, Savannah Wagsness, and Josie Larson. Team two placed in the top half.
