John Cline Kindergartners and their families enjoyed the 2nd annual Literacy Fest. Students played literacy games, did an alphabet scavenger hunt, writing activities, stories, an art project, and enjoyed special children's book-themed snacks.  The Luther College Women's Basketball team volunteered at the event, and the Decorah PTO funded the activities. Country View Dairy donated the yogurt for a healthy snack. Over 110 students and family members enjoyed an evening of learning and fun.

The Decorah Community School district is planning another event -- Trick or Treat for Learning -- which will be held at West Side Early Childhood Center on October 25th, from 5:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Young children from the community are invited to trick or treat through the halls of West Side (costumes are welcome) for literacy related items (such as pencils and bookmarks). Also available will be stories, an art project, and a fun snack.
