The Decorah High School "Pride of the Vikings Marching Band" received its 17th consecutive Division I rating of Superior Saturday at the Iowa High School Music Association's State Marching Festival held in Dubuque.
A panel of six judges rated performances on categories of Music General Effect, Music Execution, Marching and Maneuvering General Effect, Marching and Maneuvering Execution, Percussion, and Color Guard.
"This year's marching band…battled through weather that prevented us from rehearsing outdoors and not so ideal weather while marching during rehearsals and performances. They still worked diligently in every rehearsal, and their amazing performance on Saturday demonstrated that hard work," said Decorah High School Band Director Dustin Bliven, who added, "I'm very proud of them for their dedication and hard work this year; this season has been another amazing journey with some amazing students."
