(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Dan Marx of rural Decorah):
"Floyd Ashbacher has spent the majority of his adult life faithfully serving Winneshiek County. He served as our county sheriff for 10 years and was chief deputy prior to that. Now Floyd has served on the county board of supervisors for the past 6 years. During Floyd's years of service on the board, he has successfully placed partisanship aside for the good of the county.
Floyd has a deep commitment to public safety. He understands the safety and security of our county is vital to a quality education, successful business, freedom to worship, recreation opportunities, strong families and overall prosperity. He understands public safety is the foundation of success and growth.
Floyd has also made mental health reform one of his top priorities, and has represented Winneshiek County interests at the state level. Mental health reform is one of my top priorities as well, and I have worked with Floyd, other public officials, and mental health professionals and advocates to fix a broken system. I can tell you first hand that with the help and advocacy Floyd has given us at the state level, we have seen several positive changes to the mental health process right here in Winneshiek County. There is a lot more work to be done in this area. Floyd understands this and will continue to be a voice for needed reform.
Please join me in supporting Floyd Ashbacher, and re-elect him to our board of supervisors."
