Library Board says library's growing demand for space led to decision to end its lease with Toys Go 'Round

Decorah Library Board of Trustees members say the space currently occupied by the Toys Go 'Round program is needed for library programming.

The board has voted to cancel its lease with Toys Go 'Round as of March 1st of next year.  Decorah Library Board President Andi Beckendorf says, "the Library Board spoke appreciatively of the services TGR provides, and we wish them well in the next chapter of their organization."

The board first discussed space needs in February, then voted August 1st to terminate the TGR lease.  They said it has been especially difficult to find space in the library for children's programming.

The issue may be discussed at Monday night's Decorah City Council meeting.  City Council member Andy Carlson says the decision to terminate TGR's lease at the library disappoints him.  Other city council members say they'd like to hear what the library's plans are for the space currently used by TGR.
