Decorah couple recognized as Iowa Tree Farmers of the Year

The title of "Iowa Tree Farmers of the Year" belongs to a Decorah couple.

Del and Carolyn Fure were recognized Tuesday for their work on 65 acres of timber they own in the Decorah area.  The Fures hosted a Field Day Tuesday at their farm on Sand Rock Road.  They purchased the property in 1994 and have spent the years since then planting oak trees, fighting buckthorn and sharing their experiences with other tree farmers.

DNR District Forester Greg Heidebrink presented a plaque to the Fures Tuesday morning at the opening of a day of programs on topics such as marketng timber; enhancing water quality; and buckthorn control.
