Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies were busy over the weekend.
Friday afternoon around 3:40 at Highway 52 and Town Line Road, a Calmar woman, 39-year-old Bridgette Mann, was traveling south on Highway 52 when the vehicle in front of her suddenly slowed to turn. Mann slowed to stop, but Fort Atkinson resident Michael Baumler, who was driving behind Mann, was unable to stop and struck Mann's vehicle. Baumler was ticketed for following too close. No ambulance transport was needed.
Saturday afternoon around 1:00 on Highway 52 in Calmar Township, 70-year-old Dennis Osmundson of Calmar was traveling north on Highway 52, slowing down and indicating a left turn. A group of motorcycles were following Osmundson and were unable to see the turning signal. The first motorcycle was able to avoid hitting Osmundson but ended up in the west ditch. The second motorcycle, operated by 67-year-old Daniel Redding of Waterloo, struck the driver's side of Osmundson's vehicle. The last two motorcycles in the group were able to stop and avoid hitting Osmundson. Redding was transported by helicopter and his passenger was transported by ambulance to Winnesheik Medical Center. No citations were issued.
Also over the weekend, on Friday afternoon around 5:15, deputies arrested 38-year-old John Cord of Decorah and charged him with operating while under the influence. He was booked into the Winneshiek County Jail.
