The developers of four proposed multi-family apartment complexes in the Decorah Business Park are asking the City of Decorah for a $520,000 tax break for each of the four buildings.
Echo Development plans to build four apartment buildings with around 46 units in each building. Under the City of Decorah's existing property tax abatement program, the developers would receive a property tax abatement of $140,000 in reduced taxes over five years.
Echo Development, however, is asking for a ten-year property tax abatement that would provide a tax abatement of $520,000 for each of the four buildings--or a total of $2,080,000. The development project has received a letter of support from the board of Decorah Jobs, Inc. The board is in favor of the project and the partnership between the city and development organization due to the need for housing.
A public hearing on the request will be held at 5:45 p.m. Monday, October 1st, at Decorah City Hall.
