The Decorah Police Department has released its 2017 annual report--and it shows increases in a number of categories.
There were 7,365 calls into the 9-1-1 dispatch center in 2017--a 12 percent increase. Of those calls, 4,119 required a police response--an 11 percent increase.
Assistant Police Chief David Smutzler said there was no one reason for the increase in phone calls to the police department. Responding to traffic accidents (326 calls), drug arrests (45 calls) and driving while intoxicated calls (42 calls) led the list of reasons for public calls.
