The Democratic Party candidate for Iowa Governor, Fred Hubbell, made a stop in Decorah Sunday afternoon as part of a campaign tour of NE Iowa. Hubbell spoke to a crowd of just under 100 people at the Winneshiek county Democratic Party Headquarters on Water Street.
Hubbell said November's vote will be the most important election in the last 50 years because Iowa is in danger of "sliding down to Kansas." He criticized the priorities of Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds, saying he would do more for education and the environment. Hubbell said Republicans have been cutting funding of education on all levels. He also criticized cuts in health care, noting that 14 Iowa health care facilities have closed in the last four years.
Sunday afternoon's campaign stop also gave Hubbell a chance to answer questions posed by some of those attending, with issues such as Medicaid privatization and the average wage levels of working Iowans among the issues discussed.
