Decorah Police say no traffic tickets were issued in an accident in which a car struck a utility pole on Fifth Avenue, causing a power outage that affected around 1,100 residents Friday evening, August 31st.
27-year-old Eric Hild of Clear Lake was driving on Fifth Avenue near Pulpit Rock Brewing when he met a vehicle going in the opposite direction. Hild pulled over closer to the curb, but the passenger side of his car went over the curb, striking a utility pole, causing the pole to break off half way up.
Police say Hild was given a sobriety test, but passed it. He was not ticketed.
The accident caused $12,000 in damages to Hild's vehicle and $3,500 in damages to the utility pole.
