Ten Winneshiek County farms have been recognized for being in their families for at least 100 years

Of the 148 farms recognized this year at the Iowa State Fair for being "Heritage Farms"--farms that have been in the family for 150 years of more--six of them were from Winneshiek County.

Of the 359 "Century Farms"--farms recognized for being in the family for at least 100 years--four of them were from Winneshiek County.

To qualify, a family must have owned at least 40 acres for 150 years or more in the case of Heritage Farms and 100 years or more for a Century Farm.

Recognized for having Heritage Farms were Alan and Wallace Blekeberg of 2765 270th Street in Ridgeway; James T. & Margaret Elsbernd of 2026 County Road B-32 in Ossian; Roger, Anthony, Clark and Edward Gerleman of 2235 155th Street in Calmar; Bob, Ron and Brandi Hemesath of 1954 County Rd. B-32 in Ossian, Charles M. & Rose Mary Martin of 2900 100th Street in Waucoma and Lori and Roger Shatek of 3112 180th Street in Fort Atkinson.

Recognized for having Century Farms were Alan and Wallace Blekeberg of 2725 270th Street in Ridgeway; Ron and Donna Blong of 2774 105th Street in Fort Atkinson; John and Charlene Loven of 1283 Coon Creek Road in Decorah and David and Elayne Werges of 3500 Highlandville Road in Decorah.
