Explosion in a semi-trailer starts a fire Thursday night

Firefighters from Calmar, Ossian and Decorah responded to a call shortly after 8:00 Thursday night at Chase the Adventure farm on Middle Calmar Road.

A semi-trailer on the property was being used as a game bird brooder.  It was hit by an explosion and burst into flames.  While the 1,500 eggs inside were lost in the fire, Calmar fire officials say their mutual aid agreement with Ossian and Decorah was extremely helpful in getting the proper response to the fire right away and keeping it from spreading.

There were no injuries in the fire.
