Second Freeport floodplain study will be released soon by the Iowa Flood Center

In July Iowa Flood Center spokesperson Larry Weber presented the results of a study of the potential impact a new Menard's store would have on flooding in the Freeport area.  Weber said the Iowa Flood Center's study concluded the impact would be relatively small--increasing flood waters by 1.5 inches in the Freeport area.

He also noted, however, that the minor impact of a particular project might not be a reason to allow that project. "For any one of these projects, the impact is small, but what are we going to be looking at in 50 years if this trend continues?" he asked the audience.

Since the presentation, both supporters and opponents have used the study results to back up their claims.

Now comes word the Iowa Flood Center is taking a second look at the issue.  Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird has confirmed that a second study is being done.  He says it's likely the results from that second study will be available within a week or so.
