Menard's rezoning application will be discussed--but not decided--Tuesday evening

There will be plenty of talk, but no decisions, Tuesday evening at Decorah City Hall about Menard's application for a zoning change to property at 1780 Old Stage Road.

The retailer is asking that property currently zoned floodplain be rezoned to C-4 Shopping Center Commercial District.  The request first went before the Decorah Planning & Zoning Commission, which rejected the request, 4-3.  That means the Decorah City council would have to vote 6-1 to overturn the Planning & Zoning Commission's recommendation.

But that vote won't be taken Tuesday night.  Instead, the first of two public hearings will be held around 5:45 p.m.  A second public hearing will be held Monday, September 17th, at 5:45 p.m.
