Letter to the Editor: Mayor Borowski is right to ask about the financial impact of rejecting Menard's

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Mary Ann Krammen of Decorah):

"I fully support Lorraine Borowski's reasons for seriously considering allowing Menard's to build on Old Stage Road.  Her economic arguments are sound, and as an overburdened property taxpayer, I'd love to see a reduction in tax rates.  There can be no downside to more jobs with benefits, more shopping opportunities to encourage residents to shop here instead of traveling to La Crosse, and the sales/property tax benefits are obvious.  This positive economic boost to our area will certainly add to our overall quality of life.  The fact that the DNR has ruled the flood impact to be minimal, adds to the many reasons to vote 'yes' to Menards.

Bringing recognition to Decorah by attracting a national chain like Menard's will only help the tourism industry here.  People who manage to find Deborah love it, and Menard's will bring more people here to our beautiful, diverse city."
