(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Kevin Lee of Freeport):
"I think and think about problems of the crowded valley Decorah sits in. There's flooding and no room to grow. I like to think out of the box or valley as it seems sometimes. So here it is...
How about creating a new Decorah? The business park is set up and there is almost infinite area to grow up by the airport. There are many successful businesses up there already, along with many subdivisions with new property available.
How about 'New Town' with the new markets and modern constructions and 'Old Town' here in the valley with its historic attributes and tourism?
Many years ago I attended an annexation meeting at the city hall. There was a proposal to include about 90 percent of Decorah Township into the City of Decorah. I don't know what happened to that plan.
Decorah Properties has a large area ready for development by the airport. A multiplex residential apartment housing has been proposed. The brewery is already there, in a pleasant setting.
Just a thought. Should reduce or stop progression of flooding, crowded valley and traffic situations."
