A Decorah woman was injured Wednesday morning when she was knocked down and pinned by a garbage truck behind Xpedition Archery in Decorah.
The accident report states 38-year-old Daniel Christopher of Decorah backed the garbage truck he was driving into the area of the dumpsters behind Xpedition Archery. He engaged a lever to put the vehicle in auto-neutral/park, exited the vehicle, and walked to the rear of the truck to pull a dumpster out of an enclosure. The vehicle idled up and started rolling backwards while Christopher and 60-year-old Wanda Askelson of Decorah -- an Xpedition Archery employee -- were walking behind the truck towards the dumpster. Christopher yelled for Askelson to watch out, jumped back into the truck, pulled the truck forward, and put it into park. The truck hit Askelson, knocking her to the ground, where she was dragged and pinned between the dumpster and the truck.
Askelson sustained numerous injuries and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
