Ron asks: " Why hasn't this pile of trash been removed? If more trees come down the river when we have high water, all it will do is restrict the water flow and back up the water."
To get an answer, Mr. Answer Person reached out to Decorah City Manager Chad Bird. Bird says, "The city streets and / or the parks dept will work on removing the dead trees and debris when it is dry, safe to do so, and as time allows. Like many fallen trees and branches along the river, sometimes nature does what nature does. City crews will first assess if there is any harm being done to the bridge abutments and then determine if the debris can be removed safely. Finally, the work must fit into the normal work load and schedule of the departments who will perform the work."
