The City of Decorah is being presented a proposal to change the makeup of the Hotel/Motel Tax Committee. City council members Monday night got a look at a draft agreement which would create a 10-person committee.
The new committee would no longer have two representatives from the Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau, since that organization may be merged into Winneshiek County Development Inc. It would also have one, not two, representatives from the hotel/motel industry, since it's been hard to find two willing committee members.
In their place, there would be two representatives from the retail, restaurant or beverage industries and one representative from Luther College's Marketing Office.
The proposal got a favorable reaction from Decorah City Council members at a work session Monday night. The agreement would need three readings and positive votes by the council before going into effect.
