Luther College President Paula Carlson is sharing some positive news with faculty, staff, students and other members of the campus community.

During her State of the College address to mark the beginning of the school year, Carlson said 575 new students are being welcomed to campus for the 2018-19 academic year--a six percent increase from last year.

Carlson reaffirmed the college's commitment to balance its budget in three to five years, but also noted that this year's deficit would be more than half a million dollars lower than it was projected to be.

During her speech, she also mentioned the new major and minor in visual communications and minor in musical theatre; the success in reaching and exceeding annual fundraising goals; the advances Lisa Scott has developed in the campus community through the office of Institutional Equity and Inclusion; and the re-visioning of the Student Engagement and Success Committee.
