President Donald Trump on Tuesday awarded federal disaster area designation for Winneshiek County and 29 other counties in Iowa.

The disaster area status was awarded because of a June 7th storm which caused severe weather, including heavy rains, flash flooding, high winds and hail resulting in significant damage to public and private property in Allamakee, Bremer, Chickasaw, Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Howard, and Winneshiek counties.

Parts of Winneshiek County received 24-hour rainfall totals of over 5 inches.  Damage estimates for roads and other public infrastructure in Winneshiek County alone totaled more than $300,000.
