Some roads in Winneshiek County might be excluded under a new ATV/UTV ordinance

There's a chance any new ATV/UTV ordinance in Winneshiek County would have road restrictions included.

County Engineer Lee Bjerke has told county supervisors that he's concerned that ATVs and UTVs stay away from gravel roads used by heavy trucks going to and from quarries.  Winneshiek County has several such quarries located on gravel roads.

Clayton County—which ATV and UTV enthusiasts have pointed to as having a good ATV/UTV ordinance—does have a restriction in its ordinance.  ATVs and UTVs are not allowed on Clayton Road, which heads into Clayton, Iowa—where Pattison Sand Quarry is located.  Clayton County put the road on the restricted list last year, all the way from the city limits of Garnavillo to 232nd Street near Clayton.
