Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds is asking for federal disaster area designation for Winneshiek County and 29 other counties in the state.
In a letter to President Trump, Reynolds says severe weather from June 6th through July 2nd produced high winds, severe thunderstorms, hail, heavy rains, flash flooding and river flooding. "These severe weather conditions caused significant damage to public infrastructure and private property," her letter states.
In addition to Winneshiek County, federal disaster declarations are being asked for Chickasaw and Howard counties.
Reynold's letter notes that during the time period, parts of Winneshiek County received 24-hour rainfall totals of over 5 inches.
