The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides crucial support to needy households and to those making the transition from welfare to work. Now people with SNAP credits can get fresh produce at the Winneshiek Farmers Market on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings.
RSVP volunteers Bev Sheridan or Cindy Hovey at the Farmers Market information table will swipe EFT cards and then give people SNAP tokens which can be spent on any eligible food item. Then they will match the SNAP bucks dollar for dollar with "Double Up Food Bucks," meaning people can turn $5 worth of SNAP credits into $10, with a maximum match of $10 per farmers market session.
Starting Wednesday, August 1st, the RSVP Volunteers who serve at the Farmers Market are adding NEI3A vouchers to the service. Forms are available at the information table.
The program is being implemented by Northeast Iowa RC&D, Northeast Iowa RSVP, Winneshiek Farmers Market, and Iowa Healthiest State Initiative.
Winneshiek Farmers Market takes place across the street from the Post Office from May through October Wednesdays from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. More information can be found at
