Nordic Fest flags have a new look

There has been a change this year in a familiar Nordic Fest sight.

In the past flags from Nordic countries were flown across downtown intersections in Decorah as part of the Nordic Fest celebration. But city officials were advised that the flags were putting stress on their connections, since the flags caught wind gusts.

Nordic Fest officials agreed to change the flag display this year to a system of having two flags for each streetlight—one American flag and one alternating flag of Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark or Iceland. The flags are now on display on Water Street, Short Street and College Drive as part of the Nordic Fest observance.
