The Iowa Arts Council has awarded Northeast Iowa RC&D a $10,000 grant to fund a project to create postcards and posters showing scenic byways in Northeast Iowa.
Northeast Iowa artist Mary Ann Gloe will be hired to create paintings of six locations in state parks in Northeast Iowa.
Northeast Iowa RC&D Executive Director Lora Friest noted that Pikes Peak, Yellow River Forest, Maquoketa Caves and other Northeast Iowa parks are under consideration. The parks chosen must be in an Iowa Scenic Byway Corridor, must have a local sponsoring partner, and must earn final approval from Mary Ann Gloe, who has the final say about which sites are selected and exactly what and how she will paint them.
The project is scheduled to start in August and run through June of 2019. Friest says they're still working to finalize distribution locations for the postcards and posters developed through the project.
