Winneshiek County Emergency Management is pleased with new storm damage reporting software

Posted: Mon, Jul 23, 2018 11:07 AM

The new storm damage reporting software being utilized by the Winneshiek County Emergency Management department is proving to be a very helpful tool. In the 5 days since the department implemented the software, 12 damage reports have already been submitted.

Emergency Management Coordinator Sean Snyder says, "Now that everyone can upload photos and report storm damage, it's like having 22,000 reporters across the county. The software is easy to use and is already proving to be extremely helpful for our department." Once storm damage photos are uploaded, the information is reviewed by the Winneshiek County Emergency Management department for further evaluation, if needed.

Snyder explains that anyone can upload photos of any storm damage in Winneshiek County -- reporting is not limited to individual property damage. The photos and data collected will help identify how wide spread the damage is to the county, and will also allow for a seamless transition to FEMA, if the county or individual is declared eligible for reimbursement.

The Winneshiek County Emergency Management Department is 1 of 6 Iowa counties beta testing the new damage assessment software. To upload pictures and submit a storm damage report go to https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/162782ba447e494a8a82fdae29625fd4
