Here are the three projects which might be funded by a Great Places grant

Decorah Parks & Recreation Board members Thursday night got a report on just what the Iowa Great Places re-designation could mean to Decorah and the projects which might be funded by a Great Places grant. Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod says there's an August 1st application deadline for funds from the Great Places program.

Decorah is working on three applications.  The first would use Great Places grant money for more work on the Dry Run Trail, which will connect the Prairie Farmer Trail with the Trout Run Trail.  The second application asks for funds to pay for improvements to several parks facilities in Decorah, including new steps at Ice Cave and repairs to the Larson Fountain in Phelps Park.  The third application would pay for work along the "Upper Iowa River Corridor," including funding improvements to the parking lot at Dunning Springs.

Nimrod says grant application writers are trying to match the information in the applications to the criteria requested by Iowa Great Places.  He says he's optimistic that at least one of the grant applications will be selected.
