Letter to the Editor: Menard's and climate change

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Randall Hansen):

"So the Iowa Flood Center says a Menard's store by Walmart might raise flood waters 1.5 inches--not a big deal with a severe flooding event.

He did state, "We're doing something wrong."  He noted that Iowa has had nearly 1,000 flood disasters declared by FEMA since 1988--a period of 30 years.

What we are doing wrong is not taking climate change seriously.  If we focused on that, it might be a better use of our energy instead of arguing over a Menard's store.  But that is a political hot button that people mostly on the right/Republican side of the isle deny the science of.

I think we know the problem.  It may be too late to stop climate change, but we can slow it, which would buy us time to adapt. But our leaders must act in a quick fashion and take it seriously."
