(Rich e-mails Mr. Answer Person: "Congratulations to all involved with the establishment of the Decorah Dog Park.  What a wonderful addition to Decorah!  Now comes the question -- what are the regulations for dogs in Decorah?  Is there an existing leash law? How is it enforced, and are there sanctions imposed on those that violate any laws?  Just curious, and assume that nothing has changed except the addition of a new opportunity for dog owners to give their pets exercise."):

Mr. Answer Person says: "A great question!  Not only are there dog laws in Decorah, there are laws covering cattle, horses, swine, sheep, cats, other domestic animals, "domestic fowl" and even rules covering bullfights and other rules covering "dog and cat waste."  You can read those laws at:

It is a misdemeanor to allow cattle, horses, swine, sheep, dogs, cats, or other similar or domestic animals or domestic fowl to run at large within the city, meaning violators would get a ticket.  The animals involved would be scolded, which is already what I do what my cat looks longingly at the screen door.
