Decorah Police Officers responded to two separate parking lot accidents on Tuesday

At 11:00 a.m., 68-year-old Ruth Lynch of Decorah was injured when she pulled into a parking spot at Kwik Trip and attempted to park. She told officers the floor mat inside her vehicle had shifted by the brake and accelerator making it impossible for her to stop. Lynch crashed into a cement post in front of the parking spot causing $5,000 of damage to her 2012 Lincoln MKS. Lynch was transported by ambulance to the Winneshiek County Medical Center.

At 3:35 p.m., 18-year-old Cameron Hamilton of Decorah lost control of his vehicle when he over accelerated leaving the parking lot at 817 Mechanic Street. He crossed over the alley and into a parked vehicle which was pushed into another parked vehicle. Both Hamilton's vehicle and the vehicle he hit sustained major damage totaling $6,500. The 3rd vehicle sustained minor damage. Hamilton was cited for failure to maintain control of his vehicle. No injuries were reported.
