State Senator and Lieutenant Governor candidate Rita Hart
Winneshiek County Democrats planned to dedicate their new office space at 216 West Water Street Sunday afternoon with an open house and comments from several people on the November ballot.
Instead, they had to move next door to the Lingonberry when the turnout for the event grew too large.
One of the speakers Sunday, Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor Rita Hart, told the re-assembled group, "A lot of people know how important this election is."
Hart told local Democrats the November election will be a chance to again put people first. She said legislative leaders at the State Capitol "aren't listening--they're going behind closed doors." She said a lot of voices are being silenced or ignored right now in Iowa, but the November election is their chance to change that.
