Decorah's Community Dog Park will be opening by the end of this week--as soon as a few last minute details are completed. Saturday's storm has changed the priority of the Decorah Park and Rec crew, as they have had to deal with storm clean up, according to Director Andy Nimrod.
The dog park sits on just under two acres, with two fenced in areas, one marked for small dogs and one for larger dogs. A shaded shelter with a picnic table graces the entrance to the park.
A group of private citizens brought the idea of a dog park to the Park and Rec Board and have raised all the funds for the facility.
The road between the park and the cornfield is a private drive, so there is no parking allowed next to the Community Dog Park. Wal-Mart has agreed to allow parking in their lot for anyone using the Community Dog Park. Dog owners can gain access to the park through the Freeport Trail on either side of Wal-Mart.
The 5k Pulpit to Pulpit Palooza on Wednesday will split the proceeds from the race between the Community Dog Park and Spectrum Network.
