City and county trail managers say they've gotten comments about fertilizers and other sprays drifting onto the Trout Run Trail. "It's a legitimate concern," says 28E Trail Committee member Ray Torresdal. City Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod agrees, saying these are "legitimate concerns."
But the questions city and county officials have involve the difficulty of notifying bike riders and other trail users of the spraying. They say there's often a short lead time—sometimes just a day or so—before spraying starts. And contacting professional farm field sprayers would take care of only part of the issue, since many farmland owners do their own spraying.
They say the best advice they can give for people who see spray drifting over from a farm field is to turn around and get away from the spray.
