There are four candidates for the title of "2018 Winneshiek County Fair Queen"

Jessica Schmitt is the 18-year-old daughter of Carl and Terry Schmitt of Fort Atkinson.  She is a graduate of Turkey Valley High School, where she was an active member of the Turkey Valley FFA chapter, holding positions as president, secretary and historian. She was also involved in the Turkey Valley Theater Department, Large Group and Individual speech, trapshooting and YODA (Youth opposed against drugs and alcohol). She maintained a GPA of 3.75-4.0 through high school.  Jessica will attend Iowa State University in the fall and plans to double major in Dairy Science and Agricultural Communication.

Hannah Snell is the 17-year-old daughter of Todd and Paula Snell of Decorah. She will be a senior this fall at Mabel Canton, where she is involved in volleyball, JO volleyball, softball, FFA, Student Council (she serves as the treasurer), and is the Vice President of her class. She was named Academic All-Conference for volleyball and also voted MVP by the opposing team for a JO Volleyball tournament. For softball, she was named Academic All-Conference and All-Section Team. In FFA, she was awarded with her Greenhand award. She also was in the 90s club, National Honor Society and A Honor Roll.

Hailey Nierling is the 18-year-old daughter of Matthew & Jolene Nierling of Decorah. Hailey plans to attend Southwest Minnesota State University this fall to pursue an Agricultural Education degree.  In high school, she was involved in varsity track & field, softball and cheerleading. In FFA, she won an award proficiency award, star award, best record book and other numerous awards and served as a chapter officer. Hailey also was involved in the Decorah High School Silver Cord Volunteer group, Farm 2 School cross-age teacher and outreach food packaging coordinator. She also coached for Decorah youth volleyball, basketball, soccer and softball.
    
Danae Taylor is the 18-year-old daughter of Duane and Brenda Taylor of Ossian. Danae plans to attend Wartburg College and major in Music Therapy and Music Education.  In high school, Dana was involved in band, choir, large group and individual speech, fall musical, football cheerleading, trapshooting and SODA.  In FFA and 4-H, she was crowned the FFA sweetheart, served on the 4-H Winneshiek County Senior Council, and received grand and supreme champion at Winneshiek County Fair 4-H/FFA horse show.
