(Winneshiek County Development Incorporated released a statement Monday following the county board's discussion of a possible combined effort by WCDI, WCCVB and the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce):
"At the most recent WCDI board meeting (in March), the board had directed (WCDI Executive Director) Stephanie Fromm to invite the DACC and WCCVB to explore the idea of merging the DACC, WCCVB and WCDI into one entity. This idea behind the "merger" was to further research how WCDI and its partners could more effectively and efficiently provide services to all businesses and communities throughout the county.
Since the invitation was sent, one large meeting has taken place, which included board presidents of all three entities, as well as Stephanie Fromm, Kristina Wiltgen and one third-party business consultant. The presidents of each organization have also had a few discussions.
At this point, the process is in its infancy, with an undetermined timeline of action. As discussions and planning unfold, the involvement of additional stakeholders will be sought to aid in the process. If further action is considered at a later date, all decisions would be made by each entity's own board and their respective members."
