A Sioux County jury has awarded a $29.5 million judgement in a case involving a client of the Decorah law firm "Trial Lawyers for Justice."
The family of 40-year-old Carrie DeJongh from Orange City had sued both Sioux Center Community Health Center and Dr. Roy T. Slice. Slice was an emergency room physician employed by Sioux Center Community Health Center. DeJongh entered the emergency room because of a bee sting.
Dr. Slice ordered a CT scan of Carrie DeJongh, but failed to give Carrie Epinephrine. She had an anaphylactic reaction to the contrast dye administered for her CT scan, lost consciousness, went into shock and died without regaining consciousness.
The Sioux County jury issued a unanimous record-setting verdict of $29.5 million against the hospital and the doctor.
