County supervisors approve a rezoning in Freeport

The Winneshiek County Board voted 3-2 on Monday morning to approve a rezoning of property in the Freeport area.

North Slope Estates had asked the property be rezoned from R-2 residential to C-1 Highway Commercial in order to build a storage building on the property.  Supervisors waived the second and third readings of the rezoning change and approved the rezoning on a 3-2 vote, with John Beard and Dean Thompson opposed.  Thompson said he was concerned about the rezoning "because of the reasons we saw yesterday and 10 years ago," referencing flooding in the Decorah area.
